I am a sales only shopper. Yes I enjoy a bargain although that’s not the reason so much as the “Champagne taste on a beer budget” type of scenario.
You know what I mean?
Furthermore I like what I like & frankly I’d rather do without than buy any old rubbish. So I wait for sales. They’re occurring more than ever before & certain ones like Whistles, are particularly noteworthy. To be perfectly honest I believe Whistles is over-priced most of the time yet I adore their clothes & shoes (bags not so much) & indeed own tonnes of the label. However that said, I’ve never actually paid full whack for any of it. For example the shoes I posted about here purchased in their sale for a third of the original price!
Whistles skirts are especially gorgeous!
They’re manufactured to a high standard of superior quality materials that’ll last a lifetime if well cared for. The skirt I’m wearing today is a classic of theirs & a classic to me – Hopefully my photos do justice to the beautiful cream & navy heavy woven material & show the lovely finish in detail.
I also have this skirt in navy blue linen which you can see here. I think this cut suits most body shapes plus lends itself to many varied occasions. Imagine this striped skirt with a plain white T-shirt & flat sandals for a casual Summer lunch date.
Whistles has another striped version of it here reduced from £150 to £75! For my U.S readers it was $280 now down to $140!
By the way the sizing comes up slightly big on this skirt so you may want to go down one if you’d like it to fit firmly on your waist.

Trying out Clip in Hair Extensions
By now you’ve heard me complain of experiencing hair loss due to the menopause. Although I knew I was in menopause it hadn’t been confirmed by my Doctor because I simply wasn’t bothered enough to see him. That is until the daily clumps of hair in my hand became a worry.
The other symptoms such as tinnitus, hot flashes & sleeplessness I can ride out. Sleep deprivation? Ha! I’m an old hand at that one, are you kidding me? Third baby at the age of 43 makes me an expert at not sleeping BAHAHAHAHA Crazed laughter that is…
However I am a vain old chook & going bald is not in my vocabulary so off I went to see the Doc. A battery of blood tests revealed I am indeed bang smack mid meno TaDa! That’s cool give me the pills Doc – I’ll go straight to the high dose please.
5 weeks later I’m feeling a million times better, waking less in the night, fewer flushes & anger management is under control. What became of the excessive hair loss you ask? It has completely stopped. I kid you not. Actually by week 3 it had bloody stopped altogether would you believe? My hair should slowly thicken up as it grows back but in the meantime I’m experimenting with some marvellous clip in hair extensions.
I have to say I was a little skeptical that the actual clips would prove too difficult to conceal in my thin hair. However due to the clips themselves being so teeny tiny it really wasn’t at all tricky. For todays hairstyle I merely used 3 wefts of extensions fixing them from the back of my crown one underneath the other going down. Additionally I lightly teased the top of my hair blending it over the crown effectively hiding the clips. As you can see I pulled my own hair from the sides to the back where I secured it with just 2 pins. Aiming for my hairstyle to look as natural as possible I left it loose without using spray or indeed any product at all.
The extensions felt incredibly secure & completely comfortable in fact after a short time I forgot they were even there!

You look absolutely lovely in your skirt Michelle! And I must say I immediately noticed the thicker hair. I thought, wow, why is Michelle complaining about the hair loss since it looks so beautiful and full? But I swear I would never assume these are extensions, I still don’t see them, even in the close up picture, well done! And yes, the bloody hair loss, I’m still fighting it four years on. I mean, it gets better than worse, just like the whole menopausal thing, one crazy roller-coaster. But you look absolutely stunning Michelle!!!! xx Abby

Thank you for saying that Abby it’s the first thing I thought when I tried the extensions – “Can anyone tell?”
The hair loss side of menopause is treated a little with disdain I’ve found. Of course it isn’t physically damaging to us but as women it can be incredibly upsetting. I don’t know about you but I’m not prepared to ride it out which is why I wanted to try something that might help me manage it on the difficult days. Turns out wearing the extensions is great fun too!
For those with more obvious thinning I’d say go for a wig girl! Wigs these days are unbelievably convincing & much more comfortable than they used to be. Equally they are actually very reasonably priced!

Extensions are perfect in your hair. You look lovely and young. The skirt is a dream and I would be off to Whitles in a shot if I hadn’t spend so much already. You see I am very impatient, so I buy when I see. Sometimes I am lucky (when I go to the Max Mara outlet I always am lucky), sometimes I really spend to much if you look at the use of the item. We all have our faults.. 😊
Even my husband, who is very understanding of my spending habit (also due to the fact I pay for them myself), said yesterday “you know you are going a bit nuts, don’t you?” (I wanted to use the word bazurk/berzurk.. but I don’t know how to spell it haha).
