I’m in the business of inspiring outfit ideas, in case you were wondering what my job title is. Some say influencer, some say fashion blogger. Whatever my Monika, the point is to take my ideas & make them your own.
Now as much as I personally adore this white shorts suit look, it’s not for everyone. Let’s break it down to a theme. I put the entire outfit together picturing Linda Evangelista for YSL circa 1980. For me that means sexy structured shoulders, long sleeves, all white with gold accents & lots of leg. If lots of leg is not your thing, try the longer city shorts or well-cut white trousers. Absolutely any length pants that suit your shape will look equally white-hot. See another all-white outfit I styled here. Although if you choose long trousers, go with short sleeves underneath the blazer, after all ya gotta show SOME skin right?
In my opinion styling is always about showing off your best bits & disguising the less flattering, which in my case, is my arms. So for me if my legs are out my arms are covered, hence the long-sleeved shirt underneath this blazer. Rarely will I do both at once, otherwise I look like a praying mantis – all the gangly arms & legs is not a good look trust me on that.
Moving forward – if you don’t own a white blazer I would seriously consider investing in a good one. I believe that both the white & black blazers are essential wardrobe staples. So utterly fabulous for the figure, they will elevate absolutely any outfit at the drop of a hat.
Which brings me nicely to today’s post point – BE THE CURATOR OF YOUR WARDROBE/CLOSET
My thinking is if you consider yourself a collector or curator & not merely a consumer or shopper, you’ll be more mindful of the items you buy. Therefore everything in your wardrobe will be well-chosen & cared for. Yet perhaps more importantly than that, every piece will have purpose….forever. Yes FOR-EV-ER. There is cohesion between pieces, even if you don’t realise it at first. In time & with imagination, most items are styled together & re-styled in different ways! Equally important is the quality although even inexpensive pieces can last a lifetime when taken care of. Again coming back to being the CURATOR.
PICK & MIX COLLECTION
Nobody would know that these shorts & blazer are actually not a set. As is often the case with my wardrobe, two different labels that co-ordinate perfectly. Seemingly unintentional marriages of sartorial perfection happen like Kismet. Or so it seems!
Back we go again to the power of the curator. Anyone with a lot of money or a credit card can walk into a designer store & pick a winner. That’s boring & takes no imagination, creativity or indeed THOUGHT. As exciting as it is to follow the fashion choices of the rich & famous, the elite & royal, how easy it must be for them with unlimited resources?
A wardrobe curator however? Well my friends that can be anybody on any budget!
I have to tell you the pieces in my collection that I saved for the longest time are the ones I treasure the most. I literally adore them! Sure I would love to buy something every time I pop into Chanel to pray but I can’t, I have three children. Well I did choose them over Chanel after all heeheehee
Add a touch of gold
OTHER WAYS I’VE WORN IT
- SHIRT – Boden | with a jumper
- SHORTS – Winser London | with a silk shirt
- BLAZER – Marks and Spencer |with denim shorts | navy trousers | white jeans
- SHOES – Louboutin | with jeans | with a swimsuit
- CLUTCH – Stella & Dot | with a striped skirt
- BRACELET – Chanel | with a green cardi | as a necklace | as a bracelet
STYLE NOTE – A surprisingly comfortable outfit considering it’s structure. Additionally, being able to remove the blazer if I get too hot makes this retro look a Summer winner in my book. Also perfect for the garden party if you fancy a change from dresses.
WHY ESPADRILLES?
Instinctively I chose espadrilles for this outfit because they just feel right. Flats would work too but definitely not stilettos. Striking a balance with so much exposed leg is simple with the wedge heel. Of course you can customise this to whatever wedge heeled shoes you happen to have. Although as with the blazer, here I’d recommend buying a pair of espadrilles if you don’t already have them. My favourite brand at the moment is Castaner from Spain. They literally have a pair to suit everyone, every colour & style imaginable & a good price range too. I’m definitely a fan, can’t see this style going away any time soon & besides even if it did what do we care? As my friend Lamby always says #iwillwearwhatilike

Great post, great legs 😉 I have that same blazer but wouldn’t have thought to pair it with white trousers, I have only ever worn it with jeans. You look fabulous, classy and sassy. Your blog has certainly made me up my ethical game when building my wardrobe. In particular, most of what I buy now is vintage or second-hand, a win-win as it so much easier to find unique yet affordable pieces that way. I must chuck the contents of my closet on the bed and have a serious curating session, however.

Oh really I have? That’s music to my ears Rozanne! I wish I could come over the day you do the big cull, such tremendous fun!!! xxx

I really need to replace my perfect white jacket. It is getting old and the dry cleaner cannot get all the stains out of it. Yours looks perfect. However as it is an old favourite, no link to a site where I can buy one. A white jacket (the right one for me) is not easy to find.
You look so perfect you might upset some of your female neighbours.
Love the styling of this outfit. Well done.

Thanks Greetje! For some reason my link to the M&S blazer http://shopstyle.it/l/J79G shows the navy version but it does come in off white too. This is the closest match to mine, also from M&S. Great price point for the quality too although if this one ever loses it’s mojo I would spend more on the next one http://shopstyle.it/l/J8aT. Only because I wear it far more than I ever anticipated so it would definitely pay for itself in no time 😉
As for your body shape, what do you think about this cuthttp://shopstyle.it/l/J8a6? It comes in slightly at the waist & is longer length plus the extra buttons create a balance to the eye.

Why do the links in your comment not work? Could it be because I am on mobile? No…. Can you mail me the links to the white jackets you think look good on me? Pretty please?

Honestly, this is one of my favourite outfits on you. It is fresh, it is a perfect example of your shopping ethos, and it looks super original. How many people do you see walking around in a white shorts suits every day? Answer, NONE. You look fabulous here, and for the love of god those legs are too perfect.

Aw thanks dollface 😉 xxx

definitely ‘legs 11’……. I so agree with being the curator of one’s own wardrobe. It makes me be more discerning, yet creative. Plus, it is enjoyable to do.

Heehee…Yep, that’s what I don’t understand. It is tonnes of fun so why doesn’t everyone do it? 😉
