13 OF THE BEST CHUNKY KNITS TO BUY NOW

The chunky knit and me go way back. I’ve been a fan since before it was a thing. I used to buy my chunky knit from the menswear department to get the look you see everywhere now. There’s no doubt this is a fabulous piece of knitwear if you’re a fan of jumpers, it’s exciting to see so many beautiful options available at every price point.

My personal favourite would have puffed or wide sleeves to give it that extra bulk. However simply pushing the sleeves up will also work if yours aren’t statement. When you do this remember to expose the top underneath for a layered effect.

Another styling trick to add bulk without looking like an Oompah Loompah is to tuck the front of the sweater into your waist band. Although you can buy a chunky knit jumper that’s slightly cropped if you prefer.

Here is a selection of my favourite chunky knits. You’ll notice most are cream in colour. I really think cream is a terrific place to begin your foray into the chunky knit world. It’s incredibly easy to style with other colours and cream genuinely suits everyone. Naturally the shades vary, some are more yellow than others so choose what suits you. Mine is old from AllSaints but as you can see has held up very well despite the fact that I wear it A LOT. True, AllSaints isn’t cheap but as far as quality goes they’re excellent value cost per wear. I’ve bought a lot of knitwear from AllSaints over the years and I still wear every piece today. However that said, if I were to update this jumper it would be with the sensational Ganni Julliard sweater. As you know, Ganni really is hot right now but it was their knitwear that first attracted me to the label. Delicious jumpers that exude unique Scandi style but sadly are way out of my budget. In this case I’ll wait for the sales and buy out of season.

THE WATCH WITH A CONSCIENCE FROM COPENHAGEN

Arguably the birth place of minimalist design, Denmark excels in fashion, furniture and Architecture. But did you know they also make beautiful watches? My new rose gold timepiece is designed by the internationally renowned, Jakob Wagner himself! Scandinavian watch company Nordgreen collaborated with the Designer on this collection and I have to tell you, as someone who never wears a watch, I absolutely adore it!

My watch is so pretty I have barely taken it off in two weeks. It enhances all my outfits from super casual to ultra chic and doesn’t overwhelm my boney wrist which is usually what happens. Nordgreen has three different styles in the collection for both Women and Men, naturally you can change the strap to suit yourself. As if we’d expect anything less from the Danes right?

Now if minimal, elegant and functional design isn’t enough, Nordgreen is also a company with a conscience! For every watch bought, Nordgreen donates to one of three NGO’s, which the customer chooses.

  • 2 months of clean water to a child in Central Africa
  • 2 months of education to a child in India
  • Preserve 200 square ft of rain forest in Latin America.

This is so clever because the unique serial number provided on the back of each watch allows Nordgreen to track the impact of every donation. They wanted to give their customers added value by promoting ethical buying within the fashion arena. Isn’t that brilliant? Furthermore this Scandinavian brand holds sustainability very close to its core so they’re constantly working towards being 100% sustainable. Now that’s music to my ears and it shows other brands sustainability can work alongside profit.

What’s more, Nordgreen is generously giving YOU 15% off! Click this link and 15% discount will automatically be applied at checkout. Even though it’s a little early for Christmas shopping I like to take advantage of special deals when they crop up. With that in mind I put this stunning watch aside for my Dad. Plus I have plenty of time to engrave it before I post it to him in Australia!

WHAT TO WEAR WITH A CHUNKY KNIT JUMPER

What to wear with your new chunky knit jumper really depends on your taste and body shape. I love mine with flared jeans and high-heeled boots (more about these boots next week). Although I own and adore way too many pairs of flares, this pair from FRAME are my current favourite. The dirty dark wash denim and high waist give my body a terrific shape and elongate my legs to the max. Plus they’re super stretchy so it’s like wearing leggings which makes them ultra comfy. This outfit also manages to be sexy yet modest therefore warm. I also love to style my chunky knit with trousers like I did here in this post. However it is possible to create a more “formal” outfit even though this is quite a slouchy sweater. You can see an example of what I mean here in this post and this post. In any case your personal style will dictate where you go with this look.

Not as easy to pull off but definitely worth trying is the chunky knit and maxi skirt combo. Although this can look frumpy at times, even on the very young fashonista’s, I love the concept. My advice is keep the sweater length short or even cropped so your overall height isn’t compromised. There’s a chance of looking …shall we say, stumpy?

My final way to style the chunky knit is with a pencil skirt and boots. I prefer a wool or leather pencil skirt so the top and bottom weight of materials is even. Although satin does look incredible too. A feminine and whimsical combination, this styling is popular among young Instagrammers. However I’m not sold on the practicality of pairing these two opposites. How does that work? Either freeze your arse off or boil your tits off? Meh not too clever me thinks. Would you disagree?

Bye for now my loves xx
*Thank you to Nordgreen Watches for partnering on this post.

Hahaha… “Either freeze your arse off or boil your tits off?”.. I so often think this. Especially when I see a silk tanktop with boots. For instance. Crazy. Love your outfit. It is my kinda outfit.
Again, you forgot to tick the box when you linked to Nordgreen, so I got lost in searching for a watch and had to search for your blog again. I think I might order a silver one as I don’t have one. First I am going to count my money. I have the feeling it is credit-card-freezer-time again.
    Adore the boots.

Love chunky knits, I even just love the term. I started buying them years ago at thrift stores, and they became old reliables. And I love All Saints! I agree about the quality and wearability. I’m checking Ganni out next…

I know it’s funny right? I remember calling them chunky knits many moons ago in London and getting a funny look from people. Now it is an actual term!

You always choose such good knitwear, Michelle. I still love your grey All Saints knit that you posted about ages ago. Your styling is superb here, even though it is so simple… so pretty and I love the relaxed setting. And a front tuck for a chunky knit, fab!

The watch is gorgeous; I’m thrilled about the ethical angle they have too. AMAZING. I’m not a watch girl either, but I love the elegant simplicity of this one.

Yeah you know me Lisa, “ethical” makes me stop and take notice. I think what Nordgreen is doing with their brand is brilliant, couldn’t be happier to promote them!
