Since the menopause my naturally fine hair has become sparse. Even though I used to have a lot of hair the individual strands are very fine. So when I lost handfuls of hair during perimenopause it really was rather obvious and quite frightening. Later in full-blown menopause, I started hormone replacement therapy which helped enormously. Most of my hair grew back but there is no doubt the top half of my hairline has receded.
As a hairdresser I know all the tricks of the trade to cheat the look of thick hair. Yet there’s no denying it requires a lot of work on a daily basis and often I just don’t have time. The worst areas of no growth are at my temples so difficult to disguise even when I have a fringe. As you know I often wear clip-in hair pieces which are brilliant to create up-styles and give the impression of bulk however these do not disguise thinning hair at the temples.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF KERANIQUE?
I have to admit I was more than a little skeptical that a simple lotion applied twice daily could make my baldy patches sprout hair. However I understand there’s constant research into hair loss for women that I may not even know about. And so it was with an open mind that I decided to try Keranique Hair Regrowth System. I followed the instructions to the letter, leaving no doubt about the results and kept to a daily ritual.
Lo and behold a couple of weeks into the system I notice new hair! I’ll start by saying the lotion has definitely stimulated growth on my baldy temples and the treatment spray adds overall thickness to my hair. However I must warn you it isn’t exactly a pleasant scent, I really didn’t like the smell at all. I guess it’s more of a medical treatment than a relaxing spa which accounts for the lack of fragrance. The other negative is the consistency of the shampoo. Be careful not to waste a tonne of it when you squeeze this tube for the first time as it’s very runny.
Now let’s get to the nitty-gritty. Here’s a quick rundown of the steps – First I shampoo with the Scalp Stimulating Shampoo and follow with Volumizing Conditioner. Note briefly, It took a lot of conditioner to detangle my hair and comb my fingers through but that could be down to my colour fried ends.
After towel drying my hair I spray the lotion onto my temple by directing the nozel to the specific area. This lotion contains 2% of the key ingredient minoxidil which is clinically proven to help re-grow hair in Women. Next I apply Lift & Repair Treatment throughout my entire head of hair, roots to ends. This is essentially a styling product that adds an enormous amount of bulk. It’s absolutely brilliant and really gave my fine hair that extra thickness whilst protecting it from heat damage. After drying my hair the usual way I give the ends extra shine with R+Co smoothing oil. You may not need the oil, it’s just that I have so much colour build-up in my hair, it tends to be rather dull.
Overall my experience with Keranique Hair Regrowth System is 100% positive! I have more than just wispy regrowth, my hair appears thicker and healthier. Equally important to me is that these products do not contain sulphates or parabens. My conclusion? I most certainly will continue using all the products especially Lift & Repair Treatment Spray.
FULL DISCLOSURE
This post is in partnership with Keranique but all opinions are my own. I only accepted the hair regrowth system because I was genuinely curious to trial it. For me the result is very good but I’m under no obligation to say that. Actually I was about to cut a fringe to hide my baldy temples when the offer came in so it was excellent timing. Consequently I delayed cutting the fringe for now, deciding instead to grow the front and see where that hairstyle takes me.
Although when I begin to resemble Morticia Addams pleeeeease let me know! Oh wait, perhaps I already do? Lisa The Sequinist had the big chop recently. My gosh she looks totally gawjus! This makes me wonder if my long dark hair is giving my face a haggard appearance. Witchipoo for Halloween anyone? Perhaps it’s time I had the big chop too? Any suggestions most welcome.
Bye for now Darlings xx

No Fear of Fashion
Resembling Morticia Adams? You must be joking. You look really nice with this hair. Lisa looks good with her recent haircut but she also looked good with the longer hair. And you know, the shorter the hair, the more maintenance. Although your experiences with this treatment are positive, I remain sceptical as a “cure” for boldness would be so revolutionary, it would fetch the first page of every paper in the world. Until that moment I remain a non-believer. Sorry.

I totally agree with your skepticism Greetje, 100%. However the important point to make with this ingredient is you must keep using it or it stops working. Therefore I don’t think of this product (or any other that contains minoxidil) as a cure at all. However it’s most definitely a treatment for many, whether you fancy using it long term or just to try.
Lisa the Sequinist
My mom uses a similar product and swears by it. She has seen a huge difference in her hair. Hers is a different brand but has the same active ingredient as yours does. I think she’s been using it for at least a decade.
I do love your hair long, but I like it short too! I still have NO IDEA how to style my short hair, so the jury is still out. My hair gets too flat when it is long and it doesn’t do my sagging face any favours.
PS, I absolutely adore the second to last photo of you!

Ah yes I’m pretty sure minoxidil has been around a while, in various hair re-growth products. It’s a bit like the eyelash serum you and I both use, we know it’s only effective when we use it.

Hair to wash that man right out of!! (you know, if you ever needed too….)

Now all I need is whopping big Herbal Essences campaign 😉
