Every Winter since I can remember, I’ve worn a sweater dress. There have been many incarnations in my closet, often depending on the latest trend. The sweater dress I owned before this AllSaints one was cocoon shaped and above the knee but I loved it just as much. In fact I wore it so often over the years that it died. Literally fell apart, I ended up throwing it in the charity bin for rags!
No doubt this one will meet the same fate eventually since I wear it on repeat the minute the thermometer drops. I just love the sweater dress so much. In any case whatever the silhouette, and there are many, I’m in love.
Actually I’ve noticed Temperley London has gone slightly military with the sweater dress. Take a look at their swoonworthy, long-line statement print version. More awesome inspiration for ways to style mine using a ribbon belt and brooch. There’s really no need to buy a new one…Tempting as Temperley is. Perhaps next year I’ll add a second option to my closet but for now one is enough.
Here it is restyled differently three ways. You know how I love to #REwear my wardrobe.
WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT THE SWEATER DRESS?
O.K picture the classy equivalent to tracky daks. No? hear me out…Obviously cashmere lounge wear is ideal for the glam sloth in me but let’s be honest that kind of high-end luxury isn’t always affordable. A great quality, cosy sweater dress from the high-street is the attainable alternative.
Although I adore Winter I suffer from cold hands and feet syndrome (it’s not a syndrome really). Feeling toasty warm and comfy is my happy place. Therefore I like to wear good socks and gloves but equally love being snug in my clothing. Wearing a sweater literally on my entire body is almost like carrying a blanket with me wherever I go. The perfect solution to keeping the chills at bay whilst looking pretty darn chic too. Wouldn’t you agree that’s often a tricky combination to master? Guess what, the sweater dress pulls it off in one fell swoop…

CHANGING THE BELT CHANGES EVERYTHING
I’ve said this many times, but I can’t emphasize enough how changing the humble belt will completely transform your outfit.
The best thing about this trick is that your budget won’t limit the possibilities. Some of my hardest working belts are the cheapest I own. From the skinny, plaited belt I bought at a car boot for 30p to my newest recruit above. This pastel pink wide belt is from the recent collaboration we saw between Blair Eadie and Halogen. Beautifully made, faux leather and a bargain at $38. A versatile piece I’ve also worn with several of my Winter coats already! And don’t worry about the ethics of Halogen at Nordstrom. I asked Blair for information on their supply chain to which she kindly replied in detail. Blair also sent me a link to the Nordstrom ethos statement. You can read that in detail here.
In terms of budget, if you start looking at second-hand belts first you’ll often find some pretty incredible bargains. Whether you go the designer route or mass market, what could be more rewarding than taking this sustainable path? Plus I get a buzz from finding a little treasure at a snip of it’s original retail price, don’t you?
My eclectic collection of belts gives me such pleasure whilst giving every outfit, hell every item, in my closet a new lease of life.

Girl, I am always so impressed by your styling. The photo of the big swathe of dress fabric peeking out from the long slit in the sweater dress just laid me out totally. The quirky socks and the unicorn are the icing on the cake. I’ve always loved this dress on you. I have a few more basic sweater dresses, but I’m inspired to start playing with belts now, so thank you for that! xxx

I love how you’ve styled this MT and I agree with Lisa about the photography. You look classy, relaxed and uber-stylish. You nailed it. (As always) xxx

Thanks Liz, it was a particularly cold day but I was toasty warm with all my layers. In the end it was my freezing hands that made me stop shooting. You can see how red they are in a couple of shots 😉

Uhhhhhh so much to love in one outfit MT!! Your layering skills know no bounds, I would NEVER think to layer one dress over another… I need to see if this is possible with my sweater dress!
As you know I’m so jelly you got to shop Blair’s Halogen collection – I need to live in the US just to be able to shop it without all the taxes and shipping costs 😉 ! The belt is a beaut and just the most perfect shade of Blair pink. I’m gonna call it Blink, lol…!!!!
